McKinneyNews.net recently interviewed McKinney Fellowship's Senior Pastor, Bruce Miller. Here Pastor Miller answers our 5 pressing questions.

Senior Pastor Bruce Miller...

1. McKinney Fellowship is running an "I am Second" ad on our site. What is this campaign about?  Who is sponsoring it?
The movement is about having the better life. Having the better life is being second, with God first. The “I am Second” web site and advertising is being put together by a group of Christians in the Dallas area. A ministry called e3 is managing the advertising. We are joining in the movement by encouraging people to have meaningful conversations about what really matters in life. Sometimes people have a hard time talking about spiritual things, but the "I am Second" video stories give you something to talk about that opens that door.

2. What different does McKinney Fellowship have to offer church visitors relative to other churches in the area -- i.e., what makes you all special?

Honestly, I believe there are a number of great churches in the area. I would say that we all have something better to offer than other Sunday morning alternatives. Church is a place where you can encounter the living God in worship, a time to hear a life-changing message and an opportunity to engage children in truth to anchor their young lives. We provide hope and stability in challenging times.

3. How does MF serve its community -- outreach?

We love our community. We helped give birth to 3e McKinney, a non-profit organization committed to rallying churches to meet the greatest needs in our community.

We helped sponsor a Garage Giveaway last November at Old Settler’s Park attended by 4000 people where we gave away between $500,000 to one million dollars of goods.

We sponsor Neighbor to Neighbor with Jimmie and Meredith King who are sent out from our church to personally minister to people in the East side of McKinney where they have chosen to live. They have developed Life Steps with Kristin Mycke, which develops holistic life skills training for women over a multi-week period.

We have given birth to Clothe a Child, another non-profit which works with 3e. Clothe a Child partners churches, Kohls and the School District to provide $100 of new clothes for each needy child. This year Clothe a Child will be on September 19 and 26.

We take a full day to bless our community in many ways, deploying the people of our church in dozens of service projects. We call the day, Love McKinney. This year Love McKinney is on Saturday, April 4. We also have developed Run for Cover to provide for the Samaritan Inn. Run for Cover is on Saturday, April 18.

We partner with the Salvation army at Christmas contributing to their angel tree program.

We also are excited about a new partnership with a Title 1 elementary school in McKinney to provide teacher assistance and student mentoring volunteers.

4. What do you believe is the greatest social issue facing the world today?
There are many, but one my heart right now is the abuse and neglect of children. At the worst is the sexual exploitation of children, including forcing them into prostitution and sexual slavery.

4.5. What do you believe is the greatest social issue facing McKinney today?
I think it is the well being of our children. We need to be sure all the children of our community are well-fed; have adequate housing and are not being abused. We need to ensure they are getting a great education and are able to take advantage of what is provided them including finishing high school. We need to help them avoid drugs. We need to equip our moms and dads to parent effectively. Every child deserves to be loved, and to know they are special.

5. This is a freebie. Tell McKinneyNews.net readers ANYTHING you'd like.

The economic crisis is revealing what matters and what is reliable, or perhaps what does not matter and cannot be counted on. The truth is that God is real and he is the one on whom we can stake our lives. God loves you more than you could imagine. He has an enriching, rewarding, purposeful and fulfilling  life to offer you through Jesus Christ. If you are sensing any tug in your heart, I urge you to pay attention and respond to what you are sensing in your soul. God is alive. He wants to bless you and then empower you to bless others.

McKinney Fellowship is a church of real people, and we seek a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ and each other.Wherever you’re coming from, we want to be a place where you can find help and healing and a place where you can serve and find a way to make a difference in the world. We offer vibrant programs for children, middle schoolers, teens, young adults, men and women – there’s a place for everyone at McKinney Fellowship.
