McKinney High softball shortstop Ashley Thomas has verbally committed to sign with Georgia Tech.

Thomas had decided to play for the University of Arkansas, but due to a coaching change, many doors opened.

Georgia Tech was ranked 13th in the nation in the end of year polls and made it the Super Regionals. Former McKinney North pitcher Kristen Adkins also plays for Tech, having transferred there from the University of Florida.

Through three seasons at McKinney High, Thomas, a senior, has a .404 batting average, 122 hits, 80 runs scored and has been named first team All-District and Lionette of the Year each year.

In Select softball, Thomas plays for Texas Glory Gold. The team is headed to the 18U Gold ASA Nationals in Oklahoma City in August.
