Recruiting Spotlight: Frisbie Signs With Portland

The University of Portland is best known for its women's soccer team and after signing on the dotted line Wednesday afternoon, McKinney High School senior Amanda Frisbie became a part of the Pilots' rich soccer tradition.

" They have great traditions, the No.1 fans in the country, and to play for Coach Smith and Coach Sari is very exciting," said Frisbie, who chose a university that claimed National Championships in 2002 and 2005 and have won 11 West Coast Conference (Division I) championships since 1992.  "They have great players there and we plan on winning more National Championships. I'm ready to go to the next level"

The Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top male and female college soccer players in the country, has been presented to two players in Portland's history. In 1995, midfielder Shannon McMillan took home the nation's top honor and - nearly a decade later - forward Christine Sinclair (who is currently playing for FC Gold Pride in Canada) won the award in back-to-back seasons. With Frisbie's long list of accolades, there is no doubt that she possesses the skill set to one day be included with the great players who have built the UP soccer program.

Frisbie plays forward for the Dallas Texans, one of the top club teams in the country, and she is also in the Olympic Development program for North Texas and Region III. Currently, she is ranked No. 13 on Takkle.com's list of the Top 50 Girls Soccer players in the country as well as Topdrawersoccer.com's list of the top soccer recruits in the nation where she is listed at No. 45.

Frisbie made the varsity soccer team at McKinney High as a freshman and set freshman scoring records with 14 goals and eight assists in just 13 games. Her performance in 2007 was good enough to earn her First Team All-District honors, a spot on the McKinney Elite 11, District Newcomer of the Year, and a place on the State All Region Team. One year later, she was named to the All-Area Girls Soccer team and earned District MVP honors despite a broken wrist and an ankle sprain. Her club team earned state championships in 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009 and took home third place in the USYS National Championship in 2007. In her final season before heading off to college, Frisbie was included in the ESPN Rise All Area Team for 2010.

While signing with Portland is a dream come true for Frisbie, she made it clear that earning a degree and receiving a solid education is just as important if not more so than playing soccer at the collegiate level.

"I am very grateful and honored for the opportunity to attend the University of Portland, to get a first rate education and play soccer for one of the best soccer programs in the country is very inspiring and comes with great responsibility"
