BRYAN - McKinney North softball went 3-2 at the Bryan Softball Tournament, finishing as the Silver division runner-up.
The Lady Bulldogs closed the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Alvin in the Silver championship game late Saturday.
North started off Saturday with a 3-1 win against Houston Bellaire. A first-inning error helped give Bellaire a one-run lead, but the Lady Bulldogs defense and pitcher Kristen Adkins got tough. Adkins retired 12 of the next 13 batters, recording a career-high 12 strikeouts.
North got even in the fourth inning. Adkins singled, Meghan Knowles moved her over with a bunt and Kelsey Schendt brought her home with a single to left. North took the lead for good in its next at-bat as a two-out single by Amy Kilpatrick and back-to-back Bellaire errors plated Kilpatrick and Adkins.
The victory moved the Lady Bulldogs into the semifinal against Vista Ridge.
Adkins scattered five hits and the defense was solid as North shut out Vista Ridge, 1-0. Kilpatrick scored the lone North run as she was doubled in by Meghan Knowles after leading off with a single. North collected five hits, with Schendt getting two.
North took on Alvin in the final tilt of the tournament but couldn‘t muster any offense. Alvin scored two runs in the third inning on four hits on its way to eight total hits. The Lady Bulldogs had none. Adkins struck out eight and recorded zero walks in the loss.
North opened the tournament with a 9-0 win over Montgomery and a 2-1 loss to Fort Bend Clements on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to North Mesquite on Tuesday night.
