ALLEN – Kristen Adkins pitched her second no-hitter, shutting down Amarillo and helping the McKinney North Lady Bulldogs win their third game in a row, 9-0. The win over Amarillo followed the earlier 4-1 victory over Waco Midway, the No. 3 ranked Class 4A team in Texas.

North fell behind an aggressive swinging Midway squad in the second inning. A double, sacrifice bunt and single, put the Lady Bulldogs in a hole, 1-0. North responded in their next at bat. Sophomore, Kathy Shelton, bounced a line drive off of the second baseman, then stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Lindsey Post drove her in with a sacrifice fly to left.

After getting even, Adkins and the defense shut Midway down, allowing just one hit the rest of the way.

In a game where each North batter had one hit, the Lady Bulldog bats put the game out of reach in the sixth. Adkins started things with a single. Meghan Knowles walked. After a pop-up, a single by Ashley McClean, an error on an Amanda Parsonage ground ball and double by Katy Garvey, the Lady Bulldogs scored three times to go ahead for good 4-1.

Adkins finished with six strikeouts, allowed just four hits and no walks, pitching with tremendous efficiency. She complete seven innings on just 76 pitches, 53 for strikes.

In the final game of the day, North (7-2-1), pounded out 15 hits and nine runs, winning 9-0. Adkins faced just one hitter over the minimum. An error on the infield was the only thing that stood between Adkins and a perfect game. She struck out 10, reaching double digit strikeouts for the second time this season.

The game was never in doubt as the Lady Bulldogs scored three in the first and four in the second to go up 7-0. Knowles had Kilpatrick each had three hits. Knowles collected three RBI. Shelton, Liz Dankers, Kelsey Schendt and Adkins tallied two hits apiece.

North takes on Round Rock Stoney Point, Saturday at 1 p.m.
