Kristen Adkins, Sr., McKinney North SoftballAdklins was on her game for the Lady Bulldogs.
Adkins pitched her way to six wins this week, one a 2-0 victory in the District 9-4A opener against The Colony. She pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11.
Adkins was just as solid in the McKinney ISD Tournament. She earned five complete-game victories over the course of the tournament, including a two-hit, 10-strikeout performance against Azle. Adkins recorded her ninth shutout of the season in the final day of the tournament.
The Florida-bound senior also proved she could power up at the plate, doubling in the only two runs in the district-opening win and smacking two home runs in tournament action on Friday.
North is 14-2-1 following the McKinney ISD Tournament.
Eddie Morgan, Sr., McKinney High Track And Field
Morgan was pure gold at the McKinney ISD Relays on Thursday.
The McKinney High senior claimed gold in four events at Ron Poe Stadium. He won the long jump (21’9.75"), 300-meter hurdles (40.19), triple jump (45’2.5") and 110-meter hurdles (14.69).
Morgan finished ahead of teammate Matt Rephan by .60 seconds and .08 seconds in the 300m hurdles and 110m hurdles, respectively.
Morgan’s efforts helped lead McKinney’s boys to a fourth-place finish out of eight teams.
Emily Reid, Fresh., McKinney Boyd, Girls Soccer
The Lady Broncos scored four goals in back-to-back 2-0 victories last week.
Reid was directly involved in three of them. And that’s not unusual for the fireplug ninth-grader who can play midfielder and forward. She scored the second goal, the put-away goal, if you will, in Boyd’s win over Rockwall-Heath on Tuesday.
On Friday night, against rival McKinney North, Reid got the first assist, feeding Megan Griffith near the goal in the eighth minute. Later, Reid scored on a rebound in the 67th minute to put the game away.
Though much attention has been paid to Boyd’s junior defenders – and rightly so, since they helped lead North to a state title last season – successful young players make up the bulk of the lineup. Players like Reid and sophomores Jill Fuerman, Jordan Sickman, Megan Griffith, Lindsay South, Jessica Gilchrist, Amy Reed, Hailey Shelpuk and Alley Lovern are a big part of this No. 1-ranked team.
