Alex Baker, Jr., McKinney High Baseball

Baker drove a total of 10 runs in mercy-rule wins over Little Elm and The Colony.

Baker went 2-for-3 with five RBIs in a 10-0 win over Little Elm on Tuesday, and went 3-for-3 with five more RBIs in an 11-0 victory against The Colony on Friday.

Baker’s offensive explosion came in a week where the Lions didn’t allow a run against its two district foes. In other words, Baker outscored McKinney’s two opponents, 10-0.

The Lions moved to 5-0 in District 9-4A with the pair of victories. They lead McKinney Boyd, McKinney North, Frisco and Frisco Centennial all by two games apiece.

Fuerman, a sophomore midfielder, recorded the first hat trick in McKinney Boyd playoff history with three goals Thursday night.

Those goals highlighted the Lady Broncos’ 10-1 victory over Sulphur Springs in the bi-district round of the Class 4A Region II playoffs.

Fuerman has blended in nicely with her teammates after attending McKinney High last year. Several of her Boyd teammates played for Broncos coach Jimmie Lankford at McKinney North in 2006 (where they won the state title) but Fuerman has blended well.

Her season has gone better, too, considering she broke her back last season and only participated in two of the Lionettes’ district games.

Kristen Adkins, Sr., McKinney North

In what may be a record, Adkins has earned her second Athlete of the Week honor in less than a month.

It’s hard to deny what Adkins did this week.

, Adkins led her Lady Bulldogs to a win over No. 1-ranked Frisco in front of a capacity crowd at home on Wednesday night. She led the way on both sides, pitching a complete game - allowing only three hits and striking out six - and smashing a solo home run for the only score of the game.

Adkins followed that performance up two days later by throwing 12 strikeouts and allowing only two hits in a 7-0 victory at Little Elm as North moved to 6-1 in District 9-4A.

Congratulations Alex Baker.  Not a better, more hard working kid around.  I hope all your dreams come true, because you deserve it.  I am proud of you kid!
