Daryn Alves, Fresh., McKinney Boyd, Baseball

Alves led a 2-0 sweep through district play last week in a couple of ways – at the plate and on the mound.

He hit a line-drive home run over the right field fence during the Broncos’ 10-6 comeback win over Little Elm on Tuesday night.

He also went 2-for-3 during the Broncos’ 5-0 win over The Colony on Saturday night, stealing home on an aggressive double-steal call.

As a pitcher, Alves entered The Colony game in the seventh inning and didn’t allow a hit, striking out back-to-back batters to end the game.

Kelsey Schendt, Sr., McKinney North Softball

Schendt did everything but carry the water bucket in a 10-3 victory over visiting crosstown rival McKinney on Saturday.

Imagine a dream day on the diamond and it goes something like this: 3-for-4 at the plate, two stolen bases, two RBIs and two scores.

That was Schendt’s day in a nutshell. She was brilliant at the plate and North needed the effort as every game counts in the second swing through district.

The victory kept the Lady Bulldogs atop District 9-4A in a tie with Frisco at 8-1.

Amanda Frisbie, Fr., McKinney High Soccer

The Lionettes freshman sensation continued to prove her mettle even in a season-ending 2-1 loss to The Colony in the area playoffs on Tuesday night.

Frisbie pulled her team back into the game in the 63rd minute. Trailing 1-0, and with The Colony dominating possession, Frisbie took a free kick from 16 yards out of goal and curved a shot into the upper right corner to tie the score and make it a game.

The Colony kept attacking and so did Frisbie. She got two more good looks at the goal, including a point-blank shot following a cross pass from Bethany Johnston late in the game.

Frisbie finished with 14 goals on the season, a new McKinney High girls freshman scoring record.
