McKinney North’s Amanda Parsonage has made her decision.
The senior outfielder, who helped lead North to its first state tournament appearance last season, verbally committed on Sunday to play softball at Louisiana Tech.
Her father, Dave, said it was her No. 1 choice though she also considered Delaware, Villanova and Providence.
"It had a nursing program, which she wanted, and it’s in a great conference with the WAC," Dave Parsonage said of Louisiana Tech. "She visited there and liked the campus and the coach. The coach saw her play in tournaments and came to one of her high school games last spring."
Verbal commitments are non-binding.
Another perk for the senior and her family was that the Division I school wasn’t too far from home.
"It’s a great school with a great softball history, and it only four hours away. It just made sense," Dave said. "Plus, it gives us a chance to watch her play more."
As a junior, Amanda earned all-city honors on the Magnificent Nine Softball team and took Second Team All-District honors after pushing North to a 33-8 season.
She also shared the Super Slugger Award with teammate Kelsey Schendt at North’s softball banquet last spring. The senior has been playing softball since she was six years old.
