Parsonage Signs To Play Softball With Louisiana Tech

Sealing the deal with Louisiana Tech has been the best thing McKinney North’s Amanda Parsonage has done all week, except maybe celebrate her 18th birthday last Sunday.

Parsonage was excited to sign a national letter of intent Wednesday afternoon in North’s multipurpose complex, especially surrounded by her friends, family and her teammates.

“It’s taken so much weight off my shoulders,” the senior outfielder said. “It’s stressful to keep up with college coaches and see who to call next and who to write next.”

Parsonage provided T-shirts for her friends and supporters Wednesday that had the Louisiana Tech logo on the front and her name and graduation year on the back.

This is the first day college-bound senior softball players can officially sign. The senior verbally committed on Sept. 9 while on an official visit to the Western Athletic Conference school because it fit in so many ways.

“I loved the coaching staff. They are good people, and they know what they’re doing,” Parsonage said. “I liked the campus and the girls on the team. I played with some of them on summer teams and select ball, so I liked that. It just fit. It sort of just clicked.”

Since Louisiana Tech needed outfielders, Parsonage will get to stick with the position she feels most comfortable. Plus, she’ll still be a Bulldog after she leaves North as that is also Louisiana Tech’s mascot.

Parsonage’s club season with Texas Glory is just wrapping up, but she will play next summer with her 18-under team before she heads to Ruston, La., in the fall. However, Parsonage plans to go out and watch a few games at Louisiana Tech on the weekends this spring.

First-year coach Dan Sedgwick is glad to have such an asset on North’s softball team this year.

“She is one of our key players and a very talented outfielder and good at the bat,” Sedgwick said. “I’m excited to have her kind of experience on the team. It’s a blessing.”
