McKinney North senior Ashliegh McLean is a little relieved that one of her biggest decisions is behind her.
After verbally committing to North Central Texas College last November, McLean looked extremely excited as she officially signed to play softball in Gainesville next year.
“I’m actually real excited about finally going to college. The moment’s finally here,” said McLean, who will be rooming and playing with friends from her former select teams. “It makes senior year less stressful when you know where you’re going, and people are still figuring that out.”
McLean, who is also a guard on North’s basketball team, was joined Wednesday afternoon by her basketball and softball teammates, friends and past and present coaches, including former North softball coach Debbie Evans and present North softball coach Dan Sedgwick.
NCTC coach Van Hedrick said he’s excited to inherit such a versatile softball player that helped North reach the state semifinals and played multiple positions last season.
“We’re going to look at her at several positions whether it be infield or outfield,” Hedrick said. “But I think that’s what she’s going to bring most [is her versatility] to us. I don’t know how exactly she’ll fit in just yet, but it’s always a plus to have that.”
