No. 1 North Blasts No. 2 Centennial; Boyd Rips Lake Dallas; Frisco Edges MHS

The eighth-ranked McKinney North softball team clinched a playoff berth, won its 12th straight game and moved closer to the District 9-4A softball title.
Other than that, it was another ho-hum Friday night.
North disposed of the district’s second-place squad, Frisco Centennial, 9-2 while pounding out 13 hits.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 17-5-2 overall, 10-0 in the district. The Lady Titans fell to 18-8 and 7-2.
Leadoff hitter Kathy Shelton led North with four hits. Meaghan Knowles drove in three run with a hit and a groundout. Sarah Becker and Ashleigh McLean each had two hits.
McLean scattered five hits but did not allow an earned run in earning the win on the mound.
The Lady Bulldogs took control in the second inning, stringer together Becker’s double with a walk and four consecutive infield singles. Taylor Burnside, Haley Wagner and Shelton each drove in a run before Knowles’ single scored two more.
The Lady Titans turned a one-out throwing error in the top of the third into their first run. Lindsey Rykiel, the losing pitcher, sharply singled to left to bring home Taylor Narin. Centennial’s other run came after a fielding error, a sacrifice bunt, and a double. McLean, who retired the side in order in the first, sixth, and seventh, forced a groundout and a foul out to end the threat.
North is scheduled to play at Boyd on Tuesday night.
Lady Broncos Blow Out Lake Dallas
Elizabeth Lindsey did it all for McKinney Boyd on Friday night. She got the win on the mound and hit two doubles a the plate as the Lady Broncos blew past the Falcons 12-2 at Boyd.
Nicci Neal and Brittany Buaas added doubles for the Lady Broncos, who bounced back from a loss to Centennial earlier in the week.
The Lady Broncos improved to 17-8-1 overall and 6-4 in District 9-4A, which puts them in a tie for third, trailing only McKinney North and Frisco Centennial.
The victory also made Boyd 3-0 vs. Lake Dallas this season, including a 4-1 win March 11 at Lake Dallas and a 1-0 win Feb. 22 at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Tournament.
Rondi Davis took the loss for Lake Dallas, which fell to 1-14 overall and 0-10 in district play.
McKinney Boyd’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday night at home against district leader McKinney North. In the teams’ first meeting of the season, North beat Boyd 10-4 on March 14 at North.
Frisco 7, McKinney 6
Another heartbreaking loss awaited the Lionettes on Friday night as they fell by just one run at Frisco.
Chelsea Rephan and Ashley Thomas doubled for MHS, which fell to 7-18-1 overall and 3-7 in District 9-4A.
Meredith Baker was the pitcher for MHS.
Brittnie Dean’s home run for the Raccoons made the difference in the game.
Frisco improved to 12-14-1 overall and 6-4 in the district. Frisco is tied with Boyd and Little Elm for third place.
McKinney will play host to Little Elm on Tuesday night.
