Today you can take a look at the teams in Texas still vying for the grand prize, a trip to McCombs Field in Austin to play for a state championship.

First, the District 9-4A champion Lady Bulldogs (24-6-2) are playing District 10-4A co-champion Mesquite Poteet (33-4) in a best-of-three series.

Game 1 is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at McKinney North.

Game 2 is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wylie High School, which Poteet designated as its "home field" for the series.

A Game 3, if necessary, would be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allen High School.

A Look At North’s Regional Quarterfinal Foe: Mesquite Poteet

Poteet is led by standout junior pitcher Bradie Baker, who came into the UIL playoffs with 24 wins, an 0.86 earned run average and 224 strikeouts. For good measure, she can hit, too. Her .526 batting average and 26 runs batted in attest to that.

Kersti Rowan and Lindsey Barsoum lead Poteet at the plate.

The Lady Pirates have won 25 of their past 26 games, and their playoff games have been decisive. In the bi-district round, they beat Frisco 8-1 and 6-0. In the area round, they beat Paris North Lamar 7-1 and 1-0.
